Handmade Bead Woven Jewelry, Art for Special Occasions by Patricia C Vener

Autumn Goddess ©2006, Patricia C Vener

Distinctive pale orange and green elaborate bead weaving neckpiece © 2006, Patricia C Vener

I like to assign myself challenges and this one was to use colors that, until then, were not ones I normally choose. At the same time, I wanted to create a work of art that combined weaves and stitches not normally worked together in the same piece. This experimentation in combining weaves has become one of the trademarks of my bead weaving but at the time, it was a new step for me. With "Autumn Goddess" I set myself on a new course in my art that continues to lead me to exciting areas of experimentation with wondrous results. "Autumn Goddess" is adjustible from 19 to 20.5 inches though I can adapt this to be both longer or slightly shorter. She comes wrapped in tissue and nestled in a velvet lined velvet gift bag and is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity and care instructions. Price: $635.00 USD.

Lace Me Up ©2011, Patricia C Vener

Bead woven collar in black and neutrals with large cabochans © 2011, Patricia C Vener

With "Lace Me Up" I again answered two challenges. First, to choose a couture image and create a work inspired by it. Second to use neutral colors instead of my beloved bright and varied palette. This gave me the chance to add another facet to my repetoire; bead woven bezeling of highly polished cabochons. I do not glue my cabs to any surface but rather they are firmly captured by the beaded bevel itself. Additionally, it also was the perfect stage to include my own invented chain link weave, (I call it the Vener Chain Stitch but Step by Step calls it Look of Links - since they published a project I wrote using the stitch, I let them call it anything they want)."Lace Me Up" turned out to be one of my most amazing successes even though I did not finish it in time to formally enter it into the couture challenge. This stunning work of art comes wrapped in tissue and tucked into a velvet lined velvet bag for safekeeping as well as a certificate of authenticity and care instructions. Price: $2,100.00 USD

La Doña ©2010, Patricia C Vener

"La Doña" was inspired by "Phoenix Feathers," a pair of earrings I created a while ago to wear with my eight yard red and yellow cotton sari. I love how the vintage iridescent red beads shimmer and shift color not unlike my sari, in fact. Swarovski yellow crystal bicones and their larger red cousins add even more dancing sparkle. The seed beads are also faceted on one side and this adds even more sparkle as the facets reflect the light that strikes them. Length is 20.5 inches / 52 centimeters. Focal piece drop length: 5 inches / 12.7 centimeters "La Doña" comes wrapped in colorful tissue and tucked safely into a velvet lined velvet bag, It also comes with a Certificate of Authenticity and care instructions. Price: $768.00 USD

The Balance of Chaos and Harmony ©2005, Patricia C Vener

I love a good challenge especially when they result in a work of art as stunning as "The Balance of Chaos and Harmony." In this case the challenge entrants were issued a selection of various beads and a lampwork bead and instructions to create whatever we wanted. I received a beautiful flower by lamp work artist Brea Moser. My first thought directed the whole piece; a flower caught in a spiderweb. The spiderweb is made using free form bead netting which, despite its apparent delicacy, holds the glass flower completely securely. The feel of the piece is a balanced look from the two vintage shoe clips on either side. They share a fan shape but they are not the same design. This is a work that catches interest as well as being gorgeous. $627.00

Drama Queen ©1998, Patricia C Vener

"Drama Queen" starts with a subtle colored background but goes wild with improvisational splashes of color, thick fringe, vintage facted crystals and hand formed lampwork beads. Heads turn to watch when she sashays into a room. At the time I created this necklace, my then 5 year old niece was enamored of purples and had a tendency to make grand entrances. She was the Drama Queen who inspired this fanciful work of art to wear. Necklace is 19 inches inside diameter. This necklace comes wrapped in colored tissue and tucked inside its own elegant drawstring velvet lined velvet gift bag. $445.00

Celedaon ©2012, Patricia C Vener

The variscite cabochon inspired the form and color of this unique necklace. What an unusual green! And it is natural. The little purplish faceted briolettes are rhodenite, a reddish mineral often found with dramatic black streaks. Minerals are as amazing as flowers, but they're harder and tend to last longer. One of my favorite things about this piece is how much it reminds me of early Spring flowering trees. This is a softness quite unexpected from hard stone and glass beads. "Celedon" is 17 inches long but can be lengthened (or shortened) if required. It is securely fastened by a bead and loop closure. The bead is a lamp worked venetian wedding cake bead with tiny dots of beads reminiscent of floral bouquets. It comes wrapped in color co-ordinated tissue and tucked in a silver satin gift bag. $285.00

On the Beach ©2009, Patricia C Vener

This necklace was inspired by a beach we visited regularly back when I was in my late teens and early twenties. It was more rock than sand but it had lovely grassy areas and was popular for all kinds of outings. I have combined several different weaves to reflect the imagery of rolling waves, rounded hills, and netting to trap interesting sea fauna. This long necklace comes in a velvet lined velvet gift bag (gold and burgundy). Inside length is about 21 inches. $1,000.00
