I had a second floor apartment with a balcony that looked out over a small lawn demarcated by a tall slat wood fence. On the other side was a parking lot for a fast food restaurant, but I wanted a more pastoral view and decided to replace the asphalt and ugly building with trees and grass and sky. From the same perspective, view over the balcony plus imagination, I created this view slightly offset and later in the day to get "Late Afternoon Watch." The birds loved using my balcony to keep an eye out for danger and that's what they were doing one late afternoon in Summer. I love taking a bit from reality and blending it with views from my imagination to come up with vistas that might exist or could exist even if they don't exist at the time. I was visiting my parents home in Connecticut when a most remarkable storm passed by. The horizon was bright orange while the closer, overhead storm clouds were thick dark almost black. I started painting before the storm was finished and added the funnel from my own imagination. I love the drama of storms and clouds (but I prefer to keep my electricity, thank you!). This painting is 10.75 inches high and 13.75 inches wide in a matched frame that brings the finished dimensions to 12.75 inches high by 15.75 inches wide.
