My work incorporates many techniques from the basic to the complex. I am available to teach these techniques to those of you who are interested in learning them. No matter what your level, I can help you increase your knowledge base and skill level. See below for more details. Beginner to advanced, specific stitches or a course on design and color, I can help you learn what you need to help you bring your creations to a new level. I am located in Hamden, Ct., a town just north of New Haven.

One on One Classes

Personalized instruction has the following benefits
  • Student directed pace - Your comfort determines that speed at which you learn. You will find that, in general, you learn faster than in a multi-person classroom. But when you need to go slow, we can go comfortably slowly.
  • No embarrassment - Have you sometimes felt that everyone else in the class was doing better than you? Even when this isn't true, it can sometimes feel that way, especially to beginners. Such tension actually impedes your learning and is completely unnecessary.
  • Flexible time - No need to worry about when everyone else can meet. Class times can be arranged to suit your schedule.

Multiple Student Classes

Small classes have the following advantages
  • Individual attention - While several students do have to share the teacher's attention, limited sized classes do not preclude the teacher from giving each student the full focus of her attention when such is needed. At the same time, a student who needs minimal attention isn't forced to bear the undivided scrutiny of the instructor.
  • Peer encouragement - It's so nice when the person sitting next to you leans over to say, "Wow, you are really picking this up fast!" Encouragement from both instructor and peers is an excellent ego boost. It inspires us to forge ahead.
  • Social engagement - This is a time for learning, but the environment is as relaxed as it can be and the exchange of ideas and friendship is a positive adjunct to the learning goal.

Class Offerings

    Course descriptions
  • Specific stitches - Name your stitch! Peyote and variations, brick stitch, (also known as Comanche stitch), right angle weave and variations, netting and variations, are just a few of the stitches to get you started. The only thing I don't teach is Loom weaving.
  • Projects - I can design classes which focus on real projects, such as earrings, bracelets, necklaces, etc rather than on stitches. Depending on student level, these projects can include one or several different stitches, or advanced stitches.
  • Bead Embroidery - Learn how to start, carry on, finish a project. Embroider an existing garment or a decorative piece. My work has included such diverse objects as my niece's Bat Mitzvah gown and a wall hanging dedicated to the memory of my late Father.
  • Color Theory - Color has both scientific and artistic applications. How it mixes as light is not the same as how it mixes as a dye or paint. And as for glass. both aspects apply as do finishes and linings.
  • Design Theory - Throw it together? Make a pattern? Both are important and viable choices. I will help you determine when to use one or the other as well as how to implement these choices.
  • Web Choices for the Artist - Now that you've made some pieces it's time to show them off. But where? How?
  • Basic HTML - so you want more power over your web site. Basic html coding is the way to go and it isn't all that difficult. I'll show you how.
