Patricia’s Portfolio at 1000Markets
This week I feature several pieces from my own portfolio that I have in my Volcano is mostly long dripping fringe in dark glittering silver lined red offset by the sparkle of silver lined crystal beads. The drape features long luminescent bugle beads, delicate tiny seed beads finished by slightly larger ruby red seed beads that combine for an effect of interacting textures.
Autumn Goddess combines the lacy, delicate weave of bead netting with the tight fabric like weave of a Russian variation of Peyote stitch for a magnificent neck piece that is remarkable in its magnificence. I designed this work around 90 year old faceted glass beads in pale orange and a light celery green. Amazingly, I found some larger seed beads in very similar colors that are actually modern made. For an unusual contrast I used dark purple bugles, larger seed beads and Swarovski crystals in fringe and base.
Arpeggio earrings are another use of the Russian Peyote variation. This design also uses both old and contemporary seed beads. The colors are bold cobalt blue, orange red and yellow as also are found in the free form Peyote Arpeggio necklace. This set was inspired by a photograph of some woods peppered with thickly planted blooms of brightly colored tulips and a dark blue flowered path meandering between the trees.
Arpeggio Necklace had to included as well of course!
On the Beach was created for a challenge and it includes bead netting, tubular Peyote, and the spiral stitch sometimes known as Ruth’s Twist. The focal point is a lovely carved shell that I’d had for several years without a clue what I was saving it for – until this necklace formed in my mind’s eye. Freshwater pearls are the embellishment encircling the blue of the ocean’s edge. This piece always gets compliments when on display.
