Jots for June
Just for fun – a few facts about the month of June:
Name It might be derived from the name of the Roman goddess Juno. Or it might be derived from the latin word juniores meaning minors as in those not yet having reached the age of majority. In Old English this month is called Ærra Liða monaþ meaning “Before traveling Moon.” The letter þ is pronounced “th” as in the word “month.”
Solstice Month In the Northern Hemisphere this month marks the Summer Solstice while in the Southern Hemisphere it is the Winter Solstice. I’m still getting used to warmer weather, but those of you south of the equator are quite possibly antsy for Spring.
Flower and Stone SymbolsJune is represented by roses and the gemstones pearl (not actually a stone, however), moonstone, and Alexandrite.
