Artistic Promotion, First Steps

In the September 23rd edition of this weblog I announced the beginning of a new project, a new step in having art support itself (and me, the artist) as a business. I took control of my opportunities and decided to create my own event, a hybrid Open Studio, exhibition and indoor mini-fair. To remind you, the event is to take place at Helen’s Teas at 3848 Whitney Ave, Hamden, CT 06518 on 18 November 2009 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Some of the progress I have made includes:

1. Name the event: Dreams and Delights No matter how tense our lives we all deserve to have our dreams and delights to nourish us, body and soul.

2. Invite other artists and artisans so as to have three or four of us:The Soup Girl is confirmed, I’m waiting for other confirmations but I am still looking for other artists in such media as weaving, knitting/crochet, soaps, lotions and scents, something I might not have thought of.

3. Promotion brainstorming: Yes, I do have some ideas, but I need to do some more research. Among these ideas are postcards (with art you can frame!), flyers, email notices, a poster and craigslist, newspaper announcement in the arts section.

I think I’m forgetting a few things. Anyone have any idea what those could be?
Image for today is my neck piece “Volcano” just because I love how this photo came out.

It’s nice to hear of your progress. I’m wishing you all the best.

Thanks! Progress is good and I am very optimistic.

Congrats on all your progress! Have you thought of doing door prizes? If each artist donates a small item you could either have one really big prize, or several small ones! Also, make sure you have a sign up sheet for your newsletter.

Great ideas. I’ll approach the other artists about it. I had been using a small guest book to get newsletter subscribers, but perhaps a separate sign up would be better as some people leave snail mail addresses too, for when I do a snail mailing.

Or maybe a small give-away raffle from each vendor, hopefully ending up with a list of potential clients and maybe their e-mail addresses? I’m so excited for you!

  6. Patricia C Says:

Another good idea. I’ll have to discuss it with them. :)

I don’t have any suggestions, but I just wanted to wish you the best for this event. That volcano necklace is WOW.
